Why is the Mona Lisa so valuable?
Leonardo De Vinci was the greatest painter of his time and his work is revered today. He kept three paintings with him to his death. The Mona Lisa was one of them. Too precious to part with. It had the enigmatic smile of several of his works. The hands are another trademark. Shown as an expression of a persons demeanor and character. The “smile” perhaps the refection of the persons soul. His power of expressing so much detail with shadows is in evidence here. The Mona Lisa and “Our Lady of the Rocks” share that and an obscura background. Layers of lacquer painted over the back ground to give it depth. This small picture can never have a price put on it. It belongs to a world that needs this beauty. It is for all to see, not for one person to possess.
