It’s a matter of timing. Writers for talk shows write jokes that appear later in the day. Writers for television programs write scripts that are broadcast weeks later. Screenwriters write scripts that aren’t released to theaters for months, if not years. Just remember, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King script was technically completed in late 1999 or early 2000; the movie wasn’t released until the winter of 2003. The studios saw this battle looming on the horizon for the better part of the year and have adjusted accordingly. If the strike last until 2009, then you’ll start to hear things about Paramount executives quaking in their loafers.
