Why is the legislation limited to only certain professionals and only child sexual abuse?

0

In 2007, the former Government decided to introduce mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse by certain professions that are the most likely to come into contact with children and families (teachers, doctors, nurses, midwives and police officers). Other types of abuse and professionals do not come under the mandatory reporting legislation because there were concerns that mandatory reporting may overload the system with unsubstantiated reports.
