Why is the Kentmorr EcoDredge’s dredging method better than the clamshell dredging method?

Most marine contractors use outdated equipment normally intended for land use called a mechanical, or clamshell dredge. Cranes and excavators placed on steel barges move onto the site and a clamshell-type bucket reaches in to dig and scope material from the bottom floor. Typically, fine sediment, sand and mud often spill out of the bucket leaving an inconsistent, uneven marine bottom surface. This method of dredging requires more horsepower, more fuel use, additional emissions, and leaves the potential for engine grease and oil to be released into the environment. Kentmorr EcoDredge on the other hand utilizes a hydraulic dredging process combined with surveying technology that provides accuracy, is clean, efficient and can prove and will verify post-dredge results from surveying data captured an translated into a graphical map of the site. This means the marine basin floor is even and only the material from the dredged site is removed.
