Swine flu fears shutter another NYC school Another private school in New York City says it will close because of worries about swine flu. The Horace Mann School says in an e-mail to parents that it will close at the end of the day Tuesday and reopen on May 26. The e-mail says lots of students have been going home with the flu, though no one has tested positive for swine flu. The school says closing is in the best interest of students. The co-ed day school in the Bronx is the latest in a growing number of city schools to close because of flu fears. At least 18 have been shut down in the past week. Horace Mann is closed because of a high number of students have flu or flu symptoms although not necessarily swine flu. The school, located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, sent an e-mail out to parents and students on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, saying that the closure was due to “an unusually-high number of student absences, the majority of which have been related to flu-like symptoms, including several confirmed cases of Influenza A, but not Swine Flu.” The school is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 26, the day after Memorial Day.
