Why is the Heritage Study important to the Greenway now?
Residents, businesses, and government officials alike recognize the importance of the Greenway as a key element to our quality of life for embracing the interconnectedness of people, places, wildlife and land. But the Greenway didn’t happen by accident. Over the course of the last 19 years, groups of supporters and friends have worked tirelessly to create the Greenway we see in our backyard today. In 1991 a group of 70 community members developed a plan that outlined a set of goals, objectives and strategies for the area. With priority areas defined after many years of effort, many goals have been achieved. But new challenges and opportunities require a look ahead. Greenway founders identified priority areas and developed a common vision. Population growth, shrinking agency budgets, and a higher demand for recreational opportunities pose significant threats to maintaining the integrity of the Greenway in coming years.
