Why is the Government of Canada funding university and college infrastructure?

0

A. Investments in education, research and development are all essential to our efforts to create jobs and help the country best emerge from the global recession. Our Government is helping ensure our universities, colleges and CEGEPS are better equipped to train Canadians for the jobs of the future. Post-secondary institutions have indicated that a major portion of the existing campus infrastructure is at or near the end of its projected life cycle and often does not adequately meet the needs of today’s research activities. Accelerating repairs, maintenance and construction at universities and colleges is providing substantial stimulus in communities across Canada while enhancing the research capacity of these institutions, enabling them to attract students and provide a better educational experience for the highly skilled workers of tomorrow.
