In 2005, the Town constructed the Trafalgar Memorial recognizing war veterans from Trafalgar Township. Following on the heels of this initiative, Council approved capital funding for a new addition to the George’s Square Cenotaph. There is currently a monument located at George’s Square on Trafalgar Road at Palmer Avenue; however, this cenotaph only includes the names of veterans who died during their service to this country. A new Veterans’ Memorial addition will be constructed at George’s Square in summer 2009 to commemorate veterans of WWI, WWII and the Korean War who were Oakville residents at the time of their enlistment. The names will be installed on curved walls at the north and south ends of the existing cenotaph. When will it be completed? The memorial addition will be completed in 2009.
