Why is the GALFIT output image blank?
• The GALFIT output image is an image block, with the zeroth image slice being blank. So displaying the image without specifying the proper image slice will result in a blank image being displayed. There are a number of ways to display the image block. To do so using DS9, go to “File”==>”Open Other”==>”Open Multi-Ext as Data Cube.” To display it using IRAF, type “display imgblock[1]”. Use [2] and [3] to see other image slices. There are several ways to show image blocks in IDL and other software as well. What would cause systematics in fitting? GALFIT causes for systematic errors?: GALFIT allows for a considerable amount flexibility in dealing with galaxy imaging data, and the algorithm has been tested by a number of people over the years. The tests ranged from basic validations that the code can create/fit single component models correctly, to fitting multiple components to a galaxy, to exploring the effects of neighboring contamination.
