Why is the fuel flooding on an ford ranger?

0

My 87 Ranger was smelling like gas, and the fuel economy dropped drastically. I drove by a shop, and the owner checked the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR first. That was it – it was bad. I went to the parts store, got one for about $40, and replaced it in about 30 minutes. If you go to the parts store and look at one, you will likely be able to find it on the engine (drivers side, near the firewall, above the engine – with a hose linking it to fuel injection system). I think the sign that it was bad was when the mechanic removed a hose from the front of it – gas went everywhere. I do not think it was supposed to be so loaded with fuel.
