Why is the focus on agricultural, natural resource management and rural development projects?
Although many natural resource and economic sectors will be affected by climate change, impacts on agriculture and its supportive natural resources will be most likely to negatively affect the livelihoods of the poor in rural areas (which account for 75% of the world’s poor), as well as national economic growth in the least developed countries, especially in Africa. As a consequence, we chose to initially focus on these interconnected sectors, even though most of the notes are relevant to other sectors as well. This initial series of notes is expected to be enriched by additional notes targeting other climate-sensitive sectors.
