Why is the fire engine parked in the grocery store parking lot?
There are a number of possible reasons for a fire engine to be parked in a grocery store parking lot including: an emergency call, a fire inspection, a public education program, or just shopping for food to accommodate crew meals for a 24- hour shift. Because firefighters spend approximately one third of their life with this second family, the fire crew, team meals are common and encouraged by the organization. Visits to the market by firefighting personnel is limited to one trip per day and you should always see a firefighter at the engine while the rest of the crew is in the store shopping. Two important notes to keep in mind: firefighters pay for the food that they purchase (the City does not reimburse for the daily food requirements of personnel), and even though the crew is shopping, they are in service and will drop everything to respond to an emergency call.
