Why is the festival named after Johnny Appleseed?
Kenney: This will be the 17th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival hosted in Downtown Crystal Lake. John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, was a historical figure whose wilderness adventures became larger-than-life legends. He was known as a kind and gentle man who planted apple trees throughout the midwest. Johnny Appleseed’s birthday is September 26th (coincidentally the date of this year’s event), which is about the time apples ripen and are ready to be picked. Downtown Crystal Lake chose to create this fall event and honor this kind man. This is a family event, setup to provide good old-fashioned fun! MCM: Who should come to the Johnny Appleseed Festival?
