Why is the Encyclopedia no longer in SmarText?
Lotus SmarText is no longer supported by Lotus or any other software development company. When initially created, the Electronic version of the Encyclopedia fit into the suggested guidelines Lotus had outlined for their product. As time progressed, the Encyclopedia grew, and the number of additional documents necessary for the Encyclopedia surpassed the ability of the old SmarText to support. Since no development of the product was in the works to expand the capabilities of this program, the decision was made to preserve content over form. SmarText was abandoned in favor of a product that would be able to support the expansion of the Encyclopedia and the inclusion of an increasing number of reference documents.
