We have a responsibility to investigate any factors affecting the supply of the wild mourning dove population including the efficiency and waste (wounding loss) related to legalized methods of take. The main premise of this research is to clarify if there is a difference between perception and reality in wounding rates and killing efficiency. Perception is not reality regarding the scientific validity of the lethality of non-lead shot for dove hunting. In fact, the perception of the lethality of non-lead shot could be diametrically opposed to reality. Our objective is to replace perceptions with facts.
