Why is the cost on a one-of-a-kind doll so high?
A. I initially hesitated to answer this question, but more than one individual has asked. The reasons for cost vary, but usually depend upon materials and time put into a piece. While great effort is put into finding the best prices on materials, the simple answer is that using good materials, fine fabrics, and detailed trim and props, can cost more than using cheaper fabrics and materials. In the concept of you get what you pay for, I prefer to use higher quality for durability, lasting beauty, more authenticity and detail, and over-all better results. The second part to this answer is involved in the nature of a doll being one-of-a-kind. A one-of-a-kind piece is a work of art in its own right. Each is hand sculpted, fabrics are chosen carefully, and the entire presentation is tailored for each individual doll. Believe it or not, I do not charge for my hourly time, and charges are based on my material costs and the amount of detailing effort that went into the doll.
