Why is the consent of the developer required for many alterations?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so many builders and developers like to stop occupiers adding extensions or making alterations that, in their opinion, distract from the individual property or the development as a whole. It might affect their ability to sell the rest of the properties being built as easily as they would like and for the best price. Buildings like porches, conservatories or alterations such as stone cladding which may seem fine to you, will not always meet with the same approval from the builder. What we do not want is for you to find that you are in a position where the builder has the right to ask you to remove an extension or alteration, which you will have paid for, once you have moved in.
