Hair straighteners first came into play in the late 1800’s. They consisted basically of metal rods, heated by hot coals or fire, and then pressed against sections of hair to curl it, straighten it, and even crimp it. These rods were simple pieces of iron that could be handled easily by a person. Yet still, this styling was difficult. Not only did the person whose hair was being styled run the risk of being burned but so did the stylist themselves. As time progressed however, these tools began to evolve.
