Why is the cell considered to be the basic unit of life?

0

It is the most basic unit of life because although cells themselves contain other parts such as the nucleus and such, they cannot function alone. Cells are the basic unit of life because they are the smallest possible lifeform that can function on their own. It is also cells that make up tissue which in turn make up organs (brain, heart, liver, stomach, etc.) which make up systems (respiratory, digestive, etc.) which make up a living organism. You need cells in order to build up to a unit of life! Hope that helps!
