Why is the cabbage soup diet so successful?

Not that anyone is too fond of eating cooked cabbage, but obviously the cabbage soup diet works. The soup contains only vegetable ingredients that are low calorie and even can be counted to the negative calorie foods, like the cabbage for example. Now, I don’t really believe in the negative calorie theory as I think nature is very efficient and it doesn’t make sense that the digestion of a food burns more calories than this foods provides calories to the body. All vegetarians would have a hard time to not to lose weight quickly! But let’s agree that these foods provide very little calories within a large amount of food. This is by the way one main principle of “volumetrics”, where is has been proven that people consume less calories when they eat food preparations of low calorie density. Meaning, eating two carrots and an apple does not feel like much, but grate the carrots and the apple and you will have a full plate! The same applies to soups versus their ingredients themselves.
