Why is the buddah so fat no disrepect meant?
The fat Buddha that you see are Chinese depiction for a Deity that represents wealth, health, happiness and peace. It is hard for people to imagine a thin Buddha representing health or wealth. These are not the true pictures and features of the real Buddha. Besides, Buddha is a “title” given to the enlightened One Gautama Siddharta and those who have achieved blissful state of mind called Nirvana. Bearing the “title” could be depicted in forms that it should represent that is why you will see many forms of Buddha in the way you see in every man’s state of mind like what you commonly see.
common fallacy. Buddha wasn’t actually fat. His statues appear that way because for a longtime it was a tradition to go on pilgrimages to certain shrines and temples. Once there the pilgrim would press a thin sheet of gold onto the statue as a mark of respect and the statues got thicker and thicker to the point they appeared to be fat men. When westerners finally took an interest in this they believed buddha was supposed to be fat. These days the statues are made to appear fat from the begining.
