Why is the BLM displaying the draft ODFW sage-grouse Core Habitat layer?
The BLM is displaying the draft Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) Sage-Grouse Core Habitat data because the methodology used is the same as the BLM is using nationally, it is consistent with the BLM policy, and supports the agreements reached in the National Sage-Grouse Strategy. In Oregon the BLM is using the ODFW Core Area Habitat map because it is consistent with the National Sage-Grouse Habitat Conservation Strategy (November 2004), and supplemental guidance (issued March 5, 2010), that translate the BLM’s broad knowledge and experience into action at the local and regional levels to manage sage-grouse habitat on public lands. The National Strategy describes management practices designed to support and promote the range-wide conservation of sagebrush habitats for sage-grouse and other sagebrush-dependent wildlife species. The supplemental guidance identifies new management considerations for authorizing renewable and nonrenewable energy development. The National Strateg
