Why is the Black and White Justice Foundation needed?
Aboriginal citizens continue to face discrimination and disadvantage by all qualitative social measures, including standards of health, economic and social position and their treatment under both the Civil and Criminal law. The past history of “protectionist” legal regulation has proved itself to be a failure, with familial relationships severed and millions of dollars stolen in wages and other entitlements. Non-Indigenous Australians too fall victim to, rather than being protected by, the law. So, the Foundation assists Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians alike to effectively defend and vindicate their rights, strengthening the means by which Australians influence the development of the legal system to which they are subject.
