Why is the Bay of Pigs Invasion an important aspect in the Cold War?

1

The Bay of Pigs was a covert operation drawn up by Dwight Eisenhower, and actually carried out by JFK. We trained Cuban exiles and sent them back into to Cuba to start a revolt against Fidel Castro. The plan backfired and the troops were massacred in just 3 days. This was very significant in the Cold War in that it worsened out relationships with Cuba and Russia, and sparked the Cuban Missile Crisis the following year.

It was the Bay of Pigs incident which sparked the Cuban missile crisis. When Russia tried turning Cuba into a platform to house nuclear missiles close to the US.One of the concessions the US had to make to get Russia to remove the nukes was to promise not to try invading Cuba again.
