Why is the Battle of Saratoga important?
The Battle of Saratoga was important because it is the turning point in the American Revolutionary War. This was because General Burgoyne and the British were stopped from proceeding and capturing New York City, which would lead to British control over the Hudson River. Control over the Hudson River was crucial because it separated the 13 colonies between New England and the Mid-Atlantic colonies, and whoever would gain control over the Hudson River would inevitably win the war. Because the Patriots won this battle, it led to the gradual downfall of British control in the 13 colonies, which led to eventual independence. Another major reason why this was important was because the French now had proof that a colonist victory was imminent and they were willing to send troops to help fight against the British.
