Why is the alcohol limit 0.02% BAC instead of 0.05% BAC as per the driving standard?

0

The limit of 0.05% BAC is the upper level permitted to drive a motor vehicle on Australian roads. A result of 0.05% is not an absolute measure of an individual’s safety to do so, and in fact at 0.05% a driver is twice as likely to have an accident as a driver at 0.0%. On the roads, as the risk increases i.e. heavy vehicle drivers and inexperienced (P-plate) drivers, the permitted BAC level decreases to 0.0% or 0.02%.
