Because that’s where I was living when the bulk of the album was written. It’s that feeling of isolation; sometimes solitude is great but it was actually quite a dark process. A lot of time spent on my own – too much, probably. Just with my own headspace, in this big house on this island. How do you describe the sound of the album? Is it dark and reflective? For me the whole process of making the album was quite a dark thing, but most people tell me it’s not that dark an album. Or at least there’s a glimmer of hope in each song. Towards the end I definitely had to concentrate on more up-tempo songs because I’d had too much misery-guts and it was quite depressing to listen to. What sort of stuff were you listening to at that time? I would probably say U2 and The Sundays and The Cranberries. For specific different things.
