Why is the 2001 a space odyssey a new art piece?
Indiana State University dedicated a new permanent art piece inspired by Arthur C. Clarke, screenwriter and author of “2001: A Space Odyssey,” Wednesday afternoon. The piece, titled “Arthur’s Odyssey” was created by Michael Dunbar, of Springfield, Illinois. John Lustig, director of the Permanent Art Collection at Indiana State University, introduced the piece to ISU’s collection prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony. During the dedication, Lustig explained the symbolism the artwork presents in the ISU community. “Ready to launch,” he said. “Striving to achieve, like so many of our students leaping forward into their academic or professional careers, engaging the viewer in the wonderment of possibility.” ISU President Daniel J. Bradley said he liked Dunbar’s discussion on the odysseys of moving forward in life and described the piece our organic and very solid. “It’s cool,” he said. Dunbar explained that a documentary captured the moment the piece was built and interlocked.
