Why is sun exposure not good for the skin during a peel?
When the skin is peeling it is sloughing of the top layer of skin the stratum cornea therefore the skin underneath is sensitive and can easily hyper pigment (dark spots) from the sun. Melanin protects the skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays therefore the sun’s ultraviolet rays stimulate melanocytes (cells that produce pigment) in the skin which creates hyper pigmentation. Major sun exposure during a peel or 2 weeks after a peel can result in hyper pigmentation.
