Why is spring break scheduled March 10 through 14 and not the following week, which includes Good Friday?
The UIL gives school districts a three-week window, from March 10 to March 28, in which to hold district-level competitions. Many of the competitions are held on the weekends. If the Dallas ISD were to have its spring break the week of March 17 through March 21, the district would lose the weekends before and after the week of spring break, as it is doubtful that students would be in town or show up for competitions the weekend before or after spring break. That would mean the district would have only the weekdays of the week before and the week after spring break to hold 23 different academic competitions and one act plays for 36 different high schools.
