Why is some of the garbage from the Lower Mainland hauled to Cache Creek?

0

The Cache Creek Landfill accepts garbage from the City of White Rock. In the mid 1980s, there was an identifiable need for additional landfill capacity. A public process was held, stakeholders were consulted and the result was the Metro Vancouver Solid Waste Management Plan, approved in 1985. This Plan identified additional landfill capacity as a requirement. A tender was issued and the result was Cache Creek Landfill. In early 2000, Metro Vancouver purchased additional land near Cache Creek for future landfill expansion.
