Following are basic reasons why Protestants stand on sola scriptura as their only basis for authority. Sola scriptura means the Bible alone is all we need for our spiritual authority. All the things we need to know, believe and practice are clearly stated in the Scriptures, which are given by inspiration of God. Anyone with common sense can understand what the Bible says in order to believe in Christ and be saved. At the same time, the Bible is not a catalogue containing all knowl­edge of everything – including religion.
