If you wanted scientific reasoning here it is: sodium chloride is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to sodium and chlorine Atoms have many electron shells which contain different numbers of electrons..The inner shells are ALWAYS full… the outermost shell can be full or not…Atoms try to have full outer shells…
