Why Is Silicon And Oxygen The Most Abundant?
Silicon is one of the most plentifully available elements in the Earth’s crust, second only to that of oxygen. It is never found in a free state, but can be found in many common compounds occurring in nature such as rocks, sand, clay etc. it can be found as a combination with oxygen in the form of silicon dioxide, or with other elements in the form of silicates. Silicon compounds can also be obtained in water, the air and even in living organisms such as plants and particular species of animals. Oxygen is a non-metallic element that constitutes about twenty-one percent of the atmosphere. It is also present in several commonly occurring compounds such as water and iron. Two-thirds of the human body is also constituted by oxygen.
