Why is Shawnee Exploring New Solid Waste Options?

0

During 2008, the County completed an update to their Solid Waste Management Plan which called for increased solid waste diversion. In November 2008, the city received notice that Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. wanted to renegotiate the recycling contract. The Mayor put together a task force to explore residential recycling options. Many goals inside the county plan have a connection. Recognizing other waste streams are connected to recycling, the Task Force also included trash and yard waste in their scope. The Task Force met five times and presented its final report on April 13, 2009. Staff has moved forward in exploring the recommendations further.
