Balancing Self-Confidence and Self-Obsession Self-confidence is the middle ground between low self-confidence and overconfidence. A self-confident person will do what he believes in despite opposition, be willing to take risks and go the extra mile, admit mistakes and learn from them, and accept compliments graciously–realizing that what he did was excellent, and not downplaying (or upgrading) his role in the matter. A person with low self-confidence will mold her thoughts and actions to those around her, stay safely in her comfort zone or extol her virtues without waiting to be recognized in an attempt to remind herself of her importance. An overconfident person will over-reach and hyperextend, often falling short of his goal, and obsessively linger on his role in a successful situation.
