In honor of the nation’s #1 favorite dessert, the Michigan Apple Committee is going in search of the state’s best homemade apple pie. Amateur bakers are encouraged to submit their apple pie recipes for preliminary judging by Dec. 31. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of chefs and the top 60 recipe entrants will be asked to bring their pie to the 5th Annual Michigan’s Best Apple Pie Contest on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 in Frankenmuth. The winner will earn $500 and a trip for two to compete at the National Pie Championships in April 2010 in Celebration, Florida. “This contest celebrates America’s love of apple pie and Michigan’s bounty of great baking apple varieties from traditional favorites like McIntosh to newer sensations like Jonagolds – a cross between a tart Jonathan and a sweet Golden Delicious,” said Holly Whetstone, MAC marketing and communications specialist. The contest is held in conjunction with Zehnders of Frankenmuth’s Snowfest celebration. Complete rules and entry form
