Why is salinity in Mediterranean high?
In the mediterranean evaporation is strong and rain and rivers flow (mainly Nile and Ebro) are decreasing which indeed lead to an increase in overall salinity of the whole Mediterranean. Another contribution is the flow of high salinity water from the Suez Canal which increased considerably during the past due to its deepenings and widenings for navigation purposes.
