Why is said to be unlucky to bring the flower called Lilac inside a house?
The other answers contain bits and pieces of why this is supposed to be an unlucky flower. Lilac does have an extremely powerful scent and it was used to mask the smell of the dead person lying in the house, before we had embalmers, etc, White lilac is thought to be the most unlucky of the lilacs as this has the strongest scent and before the victorians chose to wear black, white was the colour of mourning, so to combine the scent and the colour was asking for trouble. White lilac is quite difficult to grow, and therefore, was rarely seen except when someone had died. I also agree that it’s a beautiful flower, with an exotic scent and I have a lilac tree in my garden from which I regularily pick some blooms to bring into the house, it’s too beautiful to leave outside.
