why is running an old UnrealIRCd version bad?
In UnrealIRCd (just like in any other software package) bugs are discovered all the time which are then fixed in the new version. Now we see people happily running beta14 or 3.1.3, but you should understand that these bugs also include ones which enable any user to crash the server or even worse bugs which enable you to become an ircop or execution of code. So even while you were running a particular version for 2 years, you NEED to upgrade.. It’s not fun when a kiddie is crashing all your servers every 5 minutes and you need to upgrade all ircds as soon as possible, half of your admins are away/unreachable and your users are going crazy…
