Why is Rockford Promise assistance offered only to students who attend Rock Valley Community College?
At this time, funding is the limiting factor. Rock Valley Community College offers several degree and certification training programs that can be completed at the college. For students who seek a four-year degree, studies demonstrate that once a student successfully completes the first two years of college, there is a high probability that a four-year degree will be achieved. Rockford Promise will provide students the hope, incentive, motivation and support to successfully complete the first 2 3 years of college. After that point, the student will have the background of college, the support of college financial aid counselors and additional resources to secure the means to continue their education. Expansion of Rockford Promise to include the ability to provide grants to students seeking a baccalaureate degree is the next step for Rockford Promise and is dependent upon how quickly the required funding can be obtained.
