Why is Retract-A-Gate specified for ages 6 through 24 months?

6-24 months is an age range which most safety gates are certified for. The common belief by the testing organizations is that beyond 2 years, children start to become strong enough, and smart enough to open most gates. A small child (under say 6 years old) probably wouldn’t figure out the lock unless they were shown how…since you have to push down and turn at the same time. (Kind of like those child-proof caps on medicine bottles.) Retract-A-Gate is engineered and designed to be very easy for adults to operate, but would be difficult for small children to open.
