Why is reporting my sales to SoundScan important?

0

Nielsen SoundScan is an information system that tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. Sales data from point-of-sale cash registers is collected weekly from over 14,000 retail, mass merchant and non-traditional (on-line stores, venues, etc.) outlets. Weekly data is compiled and made available every Wednesday. Nielsen SoundScan is the sales source for the Billboard music charts. In today’s music industry, one of the main concerns is the amount of online sales that are not being recorded. There are several reasons for this. So while you may be getting paid for those songs purchased through other sites, chances are those sales are not getting reported to SoundScan. The more sales of a single or an album that an Artist gets, the more likely the Artist will get noticed by record labels and other music companies, and have a chance to get radio play.
