Why is releasing white doves at a funeral considered closure?
Biblically, the Dove has always been a symbol of peace and purity. When Jesus was baptized, a Dove landed on his shoulder and that was to signify the presence of the Holy Spirit. Releasing Doves at funerals is symbolic of the Holy Spirit taking the deceased’s soul to heaven. It’s a symbolic closure that when the soul is with God, it is at peace…….which brings comfort to the deceased knowing their loved one is in a better place. It’s a spiritual closure but it doesn’t bring absolute closure to the loss of someone you love. That kind of closure takes time.
