Why is recycling a geographical issue???
Recycling is a way of renewing resources. Malthus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malthus) created models that showed his idea that human population is limited to the amount of available resources. Recycling therefore allows us to re-use a resource, but population growth would only be able to continue if there were an increase in resources outside of recycling. You can also take into a spatial account where the materials that are to be recycled are coming from (e.g. a city), how widespread collection of the materials is and how far they have to travel. Transportation is therefore an issue due to pollution- noise, air and visual. Recycling also reduces the need for raw materials so less energy is used and pollution is reduced. Aluminum is a great example as it is extracted from Jamaica as bauxite and is processed (by electrolysis and the bayer process) there too due to cheap electricity. The process leaves behind a red mud like substance which cannot be gotten rid of. The aluminum is then
