Why is reaction of glucose with water spontaneous?????
glucose is a sugar. It has several OH groups. When it is dissolved in water the oxygen atoms in the glucose form hydrogen bonds with water, stabilizing the molecule (now it is surrounded by water molecules). Because we gain a certain degree of stabilization, the solution of glucose in water tends to be an spontaneous process. Hydrogen bonds are formed between highly electronegative atoms (such as O) and poorly electronegative ones (like H). You may notice that the solution is a physical process. You can evaporate water and you will get the glucose unchanged. Because of this you cannot consider this process as a reaction.
