Why is RAIN still streamming older versions of Real Audio?

A.: The higher the audio quality1 the greater the bandwidth required for us to deliver that audio to you and for your modem to function effectively. Unfortunately the acquisition of additional bandwidth is a costly proposition. Current Real players require more bandwidth than we have. RAIN utilizes older Real players 2.0 and 3.0 to maximize what bandwidth we do have. More than 20% of our listeners are still using first generation Web TV units that can only utilize Real player 2.0/14.4. Earlier versions of Real Networks players may still be downloaded free of charge though they are no longer suported by R.N. or Microsoft’s Media Player plug-ins. (See link off front page).
