Reproductive performance is influenced by heat detection and conception rate. Conception rate tells us only the percentage of cows serviced that become pregnant. Pregnancy rate (PR) is a function of both heat detection and conception rate. PR takes the variability out of reproductive evaluation and is more responsive to change when compared to year long averages such as calving interval or days open. Also, the value of pregnancy rates change over time with the first cycle pregnancy rate having the greatest value.
