Why is planet venus hotter than mercury when in fact planet mercury is closest to the sun?

There is no atmosphere at all on Mercury. Therefore, the heat all goes right past it. Yes, it does get hot there, but not as hot, normally as Venus. Venus is covered with a dense layer of clouds all around it. In fact NASA had a hard time seeing Venus from Earth because of the cloud cover. When the US and Russia sent satellites to the surface of Venus, they only worked for about an hour and got so hot, they stopped working. NASA believes, the satellites probably melted, because it was so hot there! The cloud cover on Venus causes a Green House effect. All the heat gets trapped in and can’t get out. That is why it is so hot there.
