Why is Oil & Stone used on the roads?

0

The liquid Polymer asphalt that is sprayed on the road surface during this application has the ability to seal all small cracks that we either cannot see or that we cannot seal with our crack sealer. This liquid stops the penetration of water through the asphalt road surface. When water gets below the paved surface of the road during winter months the freezing and thawing allows the aggregates to separate. When traffic continually passes over this void a pothole is created. After the liquid polymer asphalt is applied either 1/4″ or 3/8″ stone is applied. The 1/4″ is used on lower speed traffic areas like developments. The 3/8″ stone is used for roads that have a higher speed or are considered a through road. These stones fill in voids on the roads surface and also makes a new riding surface so that traction and braking of vehicles improves.
